There was a young child who became convinced he hated vanilla ice cream.
If the topic of vanilla ice cream came up, he would rant against how awful it was and how it was bad for you, and may cause all kinds of diseases.
The problem was, he had never TASTED vanilla ice cream. Who knows how he got the notion that vanilla ice cream was bad for you or tasted awful, or how, as he put it, "It will make you sick as a dog if you eat even a little bit of it."

One day, his parent blindfolded him and told him that here was a cold treat he had never tried, and asked him just to taste it. He tasted it, and loved it, and soon, vanilla was his favorite flavor, and what he always asked for at the ice cream store.

Chiropractic is a lot like this story. There are people who rant against it, claim it is a sham, claim it will hurt you, and work trying to influence the law against it, but, like the little boy, many arrived at this decision without every actually trying Chiropractic for their neck or back pain.

Ironically, the same people who rail against the imagined dangers of Chiropractic, are also the same folks who don't think twice about prescribing, or taking, drugs that list possible side effects such as liver damage, kidney failure, convulsions, suicidal thoughts, etc..

The practice of Chiropractic relative to that of allopathic medicine, yields overall, much safer results. There are many ways of validating this. One is that generally, for most Doctors of Chiropractic, their medical malpractice premiums are usually much lower than Medical Doctors, even when you compare general practice MDs to general practice DCs. Also, take a lot at a very interesting document, prepared by MDs and PhDs, called "Death by Medicine". Consider this excerpted quote from that article :
"
This fully referenced report shows the number of people having in-hospital, adverse reactions to prescribed drugs to be 2.2 million per year. The number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections is 20 million per year. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million per year. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million per year.

The most stunning statistic, however, is that the total number of deaths caused by conventional medicine is an astounding 783,936 per year. It is now evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US. (By contrast, the number of deaths attributable to heart disease in 2001 was 699,697, while the number of deaths attributable to cancer was 553,251.5) ..."

Now, am I saying that no one should use medicines or be treated by physicians practicing allopathic ?

Heck no. In fact, I often refer my own patients to various medical specialists for surgery, medical management, or specialized evaluation. I come from a family of Medical Doctors. But, just as I insist
people do an informed and unbiased evaluation of the facts of prescription medications, surgeries, and allopathic care, I insist that the same be done for Chiropractic.

It is highly unscientific to dismiss a theory, a system of care, or a treatment, out of hand, without even trying it or doing due diligence in investigating what sort of outcomes are realized from that treatment or procedure.

So, before pronouncing negative statements about Chiropractic, at least.
if you don't try it, do the scientific leg work of analyzing the peer reviewed studies about the outcomes from Chiropractic care.

As far as the lies and nonsense about strokes from Chiropractic adjustment, consider this...
http://www.coloradochiropractic.org/press_releases/index.html

"From ACA 1-24-08 - A new study finds there is no evidence of excess risk of stroke following chiropractic spinal manipulation, according to a February 2008 report in the journal Spine.  In the study, researchers note that patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following chiropractic treatment than they are after visiting their family doctor’s office.  The study goes on to say that the association between a vertebrobasilar artery (VBA) stroke and chiropractic is likely due to patients with an undiagnosed vertebral artery dissection seeking care for neck pain and headache before their stroke. Review a full-text copy of the study."
